Charles Rigoulot's record is staggering. 114.7 kg (253lbs) with one hand -- all the way back in year 1926, while only weighing 82 kilograms (180.8lbs) himself. The fact that Misha, a modern professional heavyweight strongman with a legendary Olympic weightlifting career, didn't break it by a single pound despite training for it for some months speaks volumes about the prestige of this old world record. We've seen Koklyaev succeed with 110 kilograms in training. We've seen Dmitry Klokov do 101 kilograms in an exhibition. I think it's time for this record to fall, but I just don't know who can do it.

@EyesofPhysics SRG Very true. Most of these old and unsubstantiated records are ultimately nothing but mere myths. They were extraordinary claims that can no longer be proven or disproven, and naive fans choose to believe them at face value. Strongmen of olden times were solo performers, not athletes competing with other athletes like nowadays. They were strong, but not THAT strong. Since they could outlift their spectators, they could claim the weights were even heavier than they really were. If someone from the audience couldn't budge a 70 kilo weight, then you might as well claim it's 115 kilos when you lift it yourself. That's how they garnered their audiences and ultimately made their livings. My original comment was just a joke. An athlete of Koklyaev's caliber should not have had any problems obliterating an old record like this, and the fact he couldn't only sheds more doubt on the legitimacy of Rigoulet's claimed feat.

It speaks volumes that there's no way Charles Rigoulot really did 253 pounds. Misha is nearly 300 pounds and stronger by every explosive and static metric. If he can't do it given his oly history and after a few months of dedicated training, there's no way someone weighing 181 pounds did it.
